Explorers Win First Road Match of Season

Sept. 15, 2008

Philadelphia, PA - On a hot, humid day, the La Salle men's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Millersville University on Sunday afternoon.

Three La Salle freshmen cracked the starting lineup and all posted early wins in straight sets. The upperclassmen achieved wins as well including sophomore George Gennaoui who had the toughest match as he defeated Millersville's Drew Slocum in a third set super tie-breaker (6-4, 6-7, 10-3).

The heat seemed to play a factor in the doubles matches. All three doubles matches were scored 8-6 as the Explorers won two of the three matches.

"Number one doubles with freshman Bill Nason and junior Jon Maula was a very solid victory," said La Salle head coach Ed Colfer. "All of our preseason conditioning paid off today and it showed in all of our matches."

Freshmen Fernando Tovia and Morgan Abrams-Nicholas won number three doubles.

The only loss of the day was at number two doubles with sophomore Andy Petrusky and junior Christian Harvey despite a tremendous comeback in the afternoon heat.

The Explorers (2-0) host Cabrini College on Tuesday, September 16, on their home courts at 6:00 p.m.
