BALTIMORE, Md. - La Salle held a scoreless tie through one and a half periods, but Maryland-Baltimore County's Andrew Bulls broke through in 70th minute as the Explorers lost 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Explorers to 1-4-2, while the Retrievers improve to 4-2-1.
Neither team generated much offense in the first half, as they posted only seven shots combined.
Bulls broke the scoreless drought with a four-yard shot on a long cross feed from Dustin Dzwonkowski. The Retrievers had another scoring opportunity in the 80th minute with a penalty kick, but Explorer goaltender Kyle Quigley came up with the stop.
The Explorers took three shots in the last 10 minutes of the contest, but the score remained 1-0.
The Explorers held a slight 8-7 shot advantage for the contest, but could not capitalize on a few strong chances. Ryan Richter led all players with four shots.
Quigley made five stops in goal for the Explorers, while Retriever goalie Steve King stopped two.
La Salle returns to action next Sunday (9/28) when the team heads to New Jersey for a tilt at Monmouth University at 2 p.m.
