WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - In its final tune-up before opening Atlantic 10 Conference play, La Salle Women’s Soccer dropped a 2-1 decision in the first overtime to Monmouth in non-conference action Sunday afternoon on The Green Lawn.
Just four minutes into the extra session, the Hawks’ Jaclyn Pember played a ball into the box, which was shot into the net by Illiana Blackshear for the game-winner.
Monmouth (6-1-0) took the lead in the 24th minute of the match on a penalty kick by Shannon Rogers.
The Explorers were able to get the equalizer in the 69th minute, as Alex Conley had a short break away and scored an unassisted goal for her third of the year.
Both goalkeepers - Monmouth's Lia Fierro, who won her sixth match of the year, and the Explorers' Melissa Sanger - each made two saves in the game.
La Salle (4-3-1) will open up the A-10 slate on the road at Charlotte on Friday with a 7 PM start, before returning home to host George Washington on Sunday at 1 PM at McCarthy Stadium.
