Philadelphia, PA – On Elementary School Day, the La Salle volleyball team opened up Atlantic 10 competition with Broad Street rival Temple, but the Owls ended up leaving Tom Gola Arena with the victory as they defeated the Explorers, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-14).

Junior Rachel Stemper led all Explorers with 10 kills, which was one kill shy of tying the match-high. Stemper also added seven digs and one assist.

Senior Jackie Kushman was one kill shy of attaining a double-double, as she finished with nine kills and a match-high 13 digs. Kushman ranks first on the team in kills (104) and second on the team in digs (138).

Freshman Kourtney Clark totaled 18 of her team’s 22 assists, while also gathering five digs.

For the Owls, junior Yun Yi Zhang and sophomore Jacqueline Cowden each contributed 11 kills respectively and sophomores Caitlin Loudon and Ashley Carr combined for 19 digs. Junior Jackie Morrison led all contestants with 28 assists, while picking up three digs and two assisted blocks.

The Explorers (3-11, 0-1) remain home for their next match as they host the Rhode Island Rams on Friday, September 26 for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
