Harpel Nets First of the Year in Shutout Win

Sept. 26, 2008

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Kara Harpel scored nine minutes into the second half and La Salle Field Hockey - behind goalie Emma Ruth - went on to register its second consecutive shutout with a 2-0 victory over Lehigh, Friday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.

For Harpel, who led the Explorers with 10 goals last year, it was her first of the year, while Ruth - a sophomore - gives La Salle back-to-back shutouts for the first time since the Explorers opened the 2007 season with a pair of scoreless victories.

After outshooting Lehigh 6-2 in the first half, Harpel was able to break the tie with a shot at the 39:40 mark of the game.

The advantage of shots grew to 10-1 in the second half and La Salle was able to put an insurance tally on the board when Lindsay Fry notched her second of the season just three minutes later.

Lehigh's (3-5) goalie Jessica Miller stopped six shots in the game, but suffered the loss, while Ruth won her third game of the year.

La Salle (4-6) will complete its five-game homestand when they host Saint Francis (PA) on Sunday at 1 PM.
