WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth scored one goal in the first half and added two more in the second to shut down La Salle 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Explorers to 1-5-2, while the Hawks improve to 5-1-1.
The teams stayed in a scoreless deadlock until Monmouth's George Quintano broke open the scoring with less than three minutes remaining in the first half. That proved to be the only score that Monmouth would need, but the Hawks' Ryan Kinne added two goals himself within a three-minute span midway through the second stanza.
The Explorers were kept off kilter offensively throughout the game as the Hawks enjoyed a 20-7 shot margin and took 11 corner kicks to the Explorers' two.
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Bernhard was back in net for the Explorers and stopped eight of Monmouth's shots. Hawk keeper Bryan Meredith earned the win while registering three saves.
The Explorers return home to McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday (10/1) for a 7 p.m. contest with Bucknell.
