BURLINGTON, VT - Brian Barry's goal off of a scramble midway through the first half tied the game at one and both the La Salle and Vermont defenses held through two overtime periods in a 1-1 tie on Friday afternoon.
The Catamounts struck first with a goal from Lee Stephane Kouadio just two minutes into the contest. Kouadio received the ball from T.J. Gore at midfield and ran it down the field before taking a shot from 10 yards out.
Barry answered with a goal for the Explorers at the 20:33 mark, his first of the season. He flicked the ball in from a scramble on the low right side of the net. Robert Golden was credited with the assist.
Defense was the name of the game for the remainder of regulation. Vermont had opportunities in the second half, but the Catamounts 12 shots were turned away. Explorer goalie Andrew Bernhard made five saves in the second period and the Catamount defense held La Salle to just five shots to send the game to overtime.
Both teams generated little offense in either overtime period to lock in the tie.
The Explorers next face New Hampshire on Sunday at 11 a.m., also on the Vermont campus.
