La Salle forced an extra period against undefeated Rider, but came up short in its upset bid and fell to the Broncs, 2-1, on Thursday. Freshman Rebecca Chylack tied the score with her penalty corner in the 65th minute for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Rider (9-0) is one of six undefeated teams remaining in Division I field hockey.
The Broncs got on the board first when Lindsay Rajeski blasted in a shot off a penalty corner in the 18th minute. The lead would stand until 5:34 remained when La Salle (4-7) received its second penalty corner of the contest.
Junior Beth Carey, who is among the leaders in the Atlantic 10 with seven assists, passed the ball in to senior Haley Froshour, who stick-stopped it for Chylack. The Souderton, PA native then fired a 15-yard shot into the back of the cage to tie thigns up at 1-1.
The Explorers had one shot down the stretch, by freshman Janel Paukovits, but it was wide and the visitors headed to overtime for the fifth time this season.
Rider managed two shots early in the extra frame before Megan Pisani scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute to keep the hosts without a loss.
Junior Emma Ruth, the reigning GoExplorers.com Student-Athlete of the Week, made four saves in defeat. Rider's Lyndsie Johnson had two stops.
The Broncs held a 15-4 advantage in shots and an 8-2 lead in corners.
The schedule does not get any easier as #14 Stanford (8-1) comes to DeVincent Field on Saturday at 3 PM.
