Chapman Nets Goal In 2-1 Loss At St. Bonaventure

PHILADELPHIA - Rookie Glenroy Chapman (Sicklerville, NJ/St. Augustine) cut a 2-0 deficit to one, but St. Bonaventure held on for a 2-1 win over the Explorers in Olean, NY, on Sunday afternoon. The Explorers fall to 4-6-2 (0-0-1 Atlantic 10), while the Bonnies improve to 5-5 (1-1 Atlantic 10).

St. Bonaventure's Phil Corbi opened a scoreless game in the 43rd minute as the Bonnies took a 1-0 lead into the half. Brett Allen took a corner kick, which Corbi converted for his first goal of the season.

The Bonnies scored again at the 52:54 mark on Fabrizio Savarino's fourth goal of the season, assisted by Sam Maheu.

The Explorers responded less than two minutes later when Chapman sent a ball through the legs of Bonnie keeper David Flynn, an unassisted shot for his third goal of the season.

Jordan Torres (Etters, PA/Red Land) tried to even the game in the 71st minute on a header shot but Flynn came up with the save.

The two squads were nearly even in shot statistics, as the Bonnies attempted 11 to the Explorers' 10. Nine of the Bonnies shots came in the first half, as the Explorer defense limited them to just two in the second stanza. The Bonnies also held a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks, all seven of which came in the first half.

Kyle Quigley (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) took the loss in goal for the Explorers and made two stops. Flynn stopped four shots for the Bonnies.

The Explorers return home to McCarthy Stadium on Friday (10/16) when they host George Washington at 7:30 PM.
