Men's Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision At #9 Charlotte

Oct. 23, 2009

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Charlotte in Friday night Atlantic 10 action. The Explorers fall to 4-8-3 (0-3-2 Atlantic 10) while the nationally ninth-ranked 49ers improve to 9-1-3 (3-0-1 Atlantic 10).

Charlotte got on the board in the 29th minute when Isaac Caughran rocketed a ball from 35 yards out into the bottom right of the net. The 49ers went up 2-0 before the half on Adam Gross's sixth goal of the season, an unassisted shot at the 32:52 mark.

The Explorers, who found themselves down 2-0 at halftime against a then-No. 20 Charlotte team in 2008, certainly looked to make the same kind of magic happen again this season. However, this year's edition of the 49ers made sure that did not happen with a staunch defense that made it difficult for the Explorers to get momentum going along with an offense that pounded out 12 shots in the second half.

Explorer keeper Kyle Quigley made five big saves in the second stanza as the 49ers broke through for only one goal on 12 shots in the half. Justin Tucker scored on a pass from Kyle Griffin in the 71st minute.

Quigley registered a total of seven saves on Friday night, while Charlotte's David Martin stopped three shots in earning the decision. Patrick Eavenson played the last 6:23 in goal for Charlotte.

The Explorers took seven shots in the game, with Jeff Pio attempting three of those. The 49ers took 18 shots total. The 49ers held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The Explorers return to action on Sunday (10/25) when they head to Saint Louis for a 2:00 PM ET matchup with the Billikens.
