Explorers Four-Game Winning Streak Halted in Bronx

Oct. 23, 2009

Box Score

BRONX, NY - La Salle Women's Soccer entered Friday's match at Fordham with a four-game winning streak, however with less than eight minutes remaining, the Rams scored the only goal of the match to take the Atlantic 10 Conference contest, 1-0.

On a night when three teams lower than seventh in the standings upset teams currently in playoff spots, the winner of this match would vault themselves into third place in the current standings.

La Salle, with the loss, now stands in a tie for sixth-place with both Richmond and Saint Joseph's with 13 points, while just ahead of them are Saint Louis (14 points) and St. Bonaventure (15 points).

Fordham (7-10-1, 6-3-0 A-10) now sits in third place with 18 points, thanks to a pair of teams with just one conference win all season, George Washington over the Bonnies and Duquesne over the Spiders, picking up number two Friday.

The Rams earned the three points when Annie Worden scored on a header at the 82:02 mark. La Salle goalie Melissa Sanger tried to catch the service, but Worden just got a touch on it 18-yards out and the ball blooped over Sanger and rolled into the Explorer net.

La Salle (10-6-2, 4-4-1 A-10) will have a week off before heading out on its final road trip of the regular season next week. The Explorers head to St. Bonaventure for a pivotal game on Friday at 3 PM, then take on Duquesne on Sunday at 1 PM.
