PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle defense held a hot-shooting Saint Louis team to just one goal on Sunday, but ultimately fell 1-0 in conference action. The Explorers are now 4-9-3 (0-4-2 Atlantic 10) while the Billikens improve to 9-5-0 (4-1-0 Atlantic 10).
The game's only score came in the 67th minute when Benny Estes scored from 15 yards out on a punt from Billiken keeper Ross Kaufmann.
La Salle keeper Kyle Quigley (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) was spectacular in goal as he registered nine saves as the Billikens pounded out 24 shots, 16 in the second half.
The Explorers had a couple of chances to get on the board as they had four shots on goal. Nick Dundon (Horsham, PA/Wisconsin-Milwaukee) opened the game with a shot that was stopped by Kaufmann. Jeff Pio (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) attempted a header shot in the 74th minute, but Kaufmann again came up with the save.
The Billikens held a slight 4-3 advantage on corner kicks and the teams were whistled for a combined 18 fouls.
The Explorers return home to McCarthy Stadium next Friday (10/30) for their final home weekend of the season and will host Temple at 7:00 PM. Senior Day is slated for Sunday (11/1) prior to the Explorers' noon contest against Saint Joseph's.
