PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle volleyball team traveled down North Broad Street on Friday afternoon to take on the Temple Owls for the third time this season. Temple junior Yun Yi Zhang recorded a match-high 21 kills and the Explorers went on to fall, 3-1 (16-25, 12-25, 25-20, 14-25).
La Salle rallied late in the match to take a 10-5 lead to start the third set. The Owls scored two consecutive points, courtesy of Jovana Radojevic and Jessica Antosz kills, to cut the deficit to two, 17-15. Making sure that they did not give up the lead, the Explorers scored five of the next six points, capped off by two Temple attack errors, 22-16. La Salle held on to the lead for the rest of the set and won by five, 25-20.
Junior Carly Conlon and sophomore Kourtney Clark totaled 15 and 12 assists respectively while combing for 10 digs. Friday’s match marked the 17th time this season that both Explorers have reached double figure assists in the same match and the third time in the last four.
Freshman Lauren Noga led the team with 12 kills and senior Rachel Stemper added a match-high three block assists and five digs.
Senior Jackie Morrison contributed to Temple’s win with match-highs of 36 assists and 14 digs, while tallying two block assists.
The Explorers (3-28, 0-13 A-10) will compete in their last road match of the season when they take on Rhode Island on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 1:00 p.m. ET.
