KINGSTON – The La Salle volleyball team took on the Rhode Island Rams in its final road match of the season on Sunday, but the Explorers could not come up successful as they lost in straight sets, 3-0 (22-25, 12-25, 15-25).
A 4-0 run by the Explorers cut the deficit to one in the late stages of the first set, 21-20. From there, the Rams would go ahead by two, 23-21, but a Kelly Scanlon kill cut Rhode Island’s lead back to one, 23-22. In the end, however, a kill registered to Rhode Island junior Lauren McIntosh and an attack error by freshman Breanna Mazalewski gave the Rams the first set victory, 25-22.
Scanlon led the Explorers with a .370 attack percentage (13K-3E-27TA) while tying a team-best with six digs. Mazalewski also posted six digs and junior Carly Conlon led the team with 17 assists.
Freshman Lauren Noga chipped in with three kills and three digs.
McIntosh posted a .538 attack percentage (9K-2E-13TA) along with three total blocks (2 BS, 1 BA) and freshman Annie Nelson paced everyone in the match with 27 assists while also tallying four digs, a service ace and a block assist.
The Explorers (3-29, 0-14 A-10) will compete in their final match of the season on Saturday, Nov. 14, when they host Duquesne at 8:00 p.m. ET.
