CINCINNATI, OH - La Salle Women's Basketball took on #17/16-ranked Xavier in Atlantic 10 action at the Cintas Center and were handed a 72-42 defeat, Wednesday afternoon. Margaret Elderton and Jamie Walsh both scored 11 points in the loss.

After allowing the first eight points of the game, the Explorers finally got on the scoreboard with a Morgan Robertson layup at the 15:37 mark of the first.

Then trailing 13-4, Walsh knocked down a three and Robertson followed with a foul shot to pull La Salle to within five with 13:42 left before the break

Xavier (23-4, 11-0 A-10) then rattled off nine straight points to push its lead into double figures and increased its advantage to 21 (34-13) after Special Jennings hit a three with 4:57 left before the intermission.

The Explorers were able to hold the Musketeers off the scoreboard the rest of the half, but could only manage an Ashley Gale three and headed into the locker rooms trailing, 34-16.

Elderton knocked down a three to start the second half, but Xavier used a 7-2 run to build its lead back to 20 after Ta'Shia Phillips scored in the paint.

La Salle (10-16, 1-10 A-10) then connected on back-to-back three pointers by Elderton and Walsh and after a pair of Musketeer free throws, Elderton hit another one to pull the Explorers to within 13 (43-30) with 15:22 left in the contest.

However, Xavier scored eight unanswered points to push its lead back above 20 and the Explorers would get no closer than 18 the rest of the way.

The Musketeers had three players in double figures, led by a double-double performance off the bench from Dee Dee Jennings - 14 points, 10 rebounds, and she also added four assists.

Xavier held a 34-14 advantage in points in the paint and scored 13 second-chance points in the first half, and finished with just 16 to La Salle's three.

Despite the loss, La Salle set a team record for three-point baskets made in a single season, which now stands at 170, surpassing the 2005-06 squad that set the record with 166.

La Salle will next be in action on Saturday at Dayton with a 2 PM tip.
