DURHAM, NC - After taking the first game of a four-game series at Duke, La Salle University Baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader Saturday to the Blue Devils, 12-2 and 5-3, at Jack Coombs Field

Duke (2-1) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in either game, which helped them to the doubleheader win. They scored three first-inning runs in Game 1 and were ahead 7-0 by the end of the third.

In Game 2, they pushed across four first-inning runs - two unearned - and were ahead 5-0 by the end of the third.

La Salle managed just four hits in Game 1 - two by TJ Chism - the first which produced the Explorers first run in the fourth inning (Justin Handler scored).

His second hit was a leadoff double in the seventh and he later came around to score on a groundout by Jon Gyles.

The Explorers had six hits in Game 2 and drew eight walks, but left eight runners stranded.

However, in the fourth inning, they made the most of their hits and walks to put three runs on the board. Chism walked and moved to third on Marc Schoch's double.

Dennis Burge loaded the bases with a walk and Chism scored on Jim Tarabocchia's sacrifice fly. Brian Meagher then delivered a two-RBI double into left-center, to plate Schoch and Burge.

La Salle (1-2) then loaded the bases again with two out in the fifth on three straight bases on balls, but then Duke went to their pen and the Blue Devils would not allow another run to score the rest of the way.

Cody Weiss suffered the loss in Game 1, while Kevin Fuqua took Game 2's loss.

The teams will complete its four-game series on Sunday with one game starting at 12 PM.
