Davidson, NC - The La Salle and Monmouth lacrosse teams were all knotted up at nine with under two minutes remaining in regulation, but a Taylor Ruland goal with 1:29 left, broke open the tie and gave the Explorers the lead and win at Davidson College on Wednesday, 10-9.
With 25:49 remaining in the second period, the Monmouth Hawks paced the Explorers with a one goal lead, 8-7. La Salle answered back with two consecutive goals, which was kicked off by junior Stefany McKee (18:02) and capped off by sophomore Ashley Rutz (13:30), 9-8.
Junior Jill Davis tied a game-high with four goals and Ruland and McKee followed up with two goals respectively.
Freshman Nora McGurkin recorded two assists and controlled the draw four times, marking game-highs, and sophomore Brittany White and sophomore Nicole McCurdy each chipped in with three ground balls.
La Salle outscored the Hawks in the second period, 4-2, and also forced 29 Monmouth turnovers.
The Explorers (2-2) return to Philadelphia for a two-game homestand starting with Le Moyne on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
