Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle lacrosse team, after winning two straight away from McCarthy Stadium, looked to add to their recent success at home, however, the Le Moyne Dolphins scored the final goal with nine seconds left to top the Explorers, 11-9. Sophomore Ashley Rutz scored a game and season-high four goals in the loss.
The Explorers struck first with two quick goals to begin the game (Rutz, 25:05; junior Jill Davis, 23:56), and then three unanswered goals from Le Moyne gave the Dolphins a two-lead advantage, 6-4. La Salle answered back with two consecutive goals from Rutz and sophomore Rachel Baker to tie the game, 6-6, at the break. In the second period, the Dolphins scored the first two goals and eventually went on to outscore the Explorers in that period, 5-3.
For Le Moyne, senior Maura Kenville and sophomore Mia Valletta both contributed three goals apiece and senior McKenzie Gray dished out a game-high four assists in addition to one goal.
Davis and junior Stefany McKee also added to La Salle's scoring with two goals respectively. Freshman Nora McGurkin led all Explorers with two assists on the afternoon.
Sophomore Nicole McCurdy recorded a game-high four ground balls and also totaled two caused turnovers.
La Salle, who posted a 15-9 ground ball advantage, forced 20 Le Moyne turnovers.
The Explorers (2-3) will play the second game of their two-game homestand on Tuesday when they host Villanova at 6:30 PM.
