Kennedy Wins Second Straight Start In La Salle's Third Consecutive Victory

March 18, 2009

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - After allowing three first-inning runs, Sean Kennedy settled down and the Explorers' offense came alive as they defeated the Hornets, 15-4, on Wednesday at Delaware State.

La Salle Baseball pounded out 20 hits - 18 singles - and every starter either had at least a run scored or an RBI in the victory.

Delaware State (5-8-1) started the game off with four straight first-inning hits, and the Hornets were still in business with runners on the corners with one out up 3-0.

However, they ended their own threat as Abe Eubanks - who had just singled home a run - was caught stealing: Kennedy to TJ Chism to Brian Meagher, who then turned and threw home to Zack Feierstein, who tagged out Justin Bittner - who double home a run and was trying to score from third.

The Explorers then responded with a three-spot to tie the game in the top of the second, with Jon Gyles, Chris Umstead, and Jeff Flax all driving in runs.

La Salle (8-6) took a one-run lead in the fourth - an RBI single by John Malloy - and then scored 11 runs combined in the fifth and sixth to break open the game.

Marc Schoch led the Explorers with four hits, while he also scored three times as did Gyles and Umstead. Flax, Feierstein, and Umstead all drove in a pair as well.

Kennedy went five innings to pick up his second win of the season, while Kevin Christy threw a perfect sixth with a strikeout, Christian Schulz allowed just his third run of the spring in the seventh, and Zach Huff (one K) and Caolan Ronan threw scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth.

La Salle, which is riding its second three-game winning streak of the season, will open its Atlantic 10 slate this weekend - hosting Saint Joseph's on Friday (3 PM), Saturday (1 PM), and Sunday (12 PM) at Hank DeVincent Field.
