La Salle Drops Road Game to Lehigh, 20-7

March 24, 2009

Box Score

Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle lacrosse team was in search of their fourth win in five games on Wednesday, but sophomore Lauren Dykstra's seven goals for Lehigh proved to be too much as the Explorers fell to the Mountain Hawks on the road, 20-7.

Lehigh struck first with four consecutive goals to start the game, but two unanswered goals from La Salle cut the deficit to two, 4-2. That was the closest the Explores would get before Lehigh would go on to expand their lead, which included five straight goals to end the game.

Six of La Salle's seven goals were attributed to junior Jill Davis, sophomore Ashley Rutz and freshman Nora McGurkin as all three players added two goals apiece. McGurkin also recorded a game-high eight ground balls, an assist, a caused turnover and a draw control.

The Mountain Hawks had the advantage in ground balls, 31-28, and also tallied more shots, 33-17. Lehigh had 14 successful clears and both teams totaled 19 turnovers each.

Junior Stefany McKee contributed one goal and one assist for the Explorers and Rutz controlled the draw five times to mark a game-high.

The Explorers (3-4) open up conference play against the University of Massachusetts at home on Friday at 4:00 PM.
