PHILADELPHIA - La Salle Baseball got back in the win column with a 12-2 victory over visiting Delaware State in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.
TJ Chism and John Malloy each had three hits, drove in three runs, and scored two times, while Brian Meagher also had three hits and scored a career-high three runs.
In his first career start, Kevin Christy went six innings, allowed four hits, one run, and struck out four to earn his first collegiate win.
The Explorers plated three unearned runs in the third inning all on two outs. Malloy hit a two-RBI single to center, and then came home on Chism's double down the right field line.
Delaware State (8-10-1) answered with a run in the fifth inning to cut its deficit to 3-1. Mike Rizzuto singled with one out, moved to second on a wild pitch, and to third on a sac bunt. He scored on Wynton Weather's single to left.
La Salle responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame and three more in the sixth to take command of the contest. Justin Handler hit an RBI single, as did Chism and Jon Gyles in the fifth, while Jeff Flax had an RBI single in the sixth, before a Malloy RBI double and a Chism sac fly.
In the eighth, Brendan Norton double home a pair of runs to increase the Explorer lead to 12-1.
Cody Weiss threw two scoreless innings while striking out four and Jeremy Zarou closed out the game in the ninth, allowing just a single run.
La Salle (9-10) will face Temple this weekend in a three-game Atlantic 10 series at Skip Wilson Field in Ambler starting on Friday at 3 PM. Saturday's and Sunday's first pitch is schedule for 1 PM.
