NEW YORK, N.Y. - Angelina Bisbiglia belted one of La Salle's three hits and crossed the plate for the lone run in a 9-1 five-inning loss to Fordham on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Explorers to 3-13 overall, 2-4 in the Atlantic 10, while the Rams move to 20-12, 2-2 in league play.
Explorer hurler DJ Guinn and her Ram counterpart Jen Mineau held each team scoreless through the first two innings. However, a big inning for the opposition again hurt the Explorers. The Rams registered six runs on four hits and four walks in the third inning, and added three more in the fourth.
The offense started coming to life in the fifth inning for the Explorers with Bisbiglia's lead-off single to center followed by Shannon Skomorucha's single past Ram second baseman Jessica Weckenman. Bisbiglia and Skomorucha advanced to second and third two batters later when Laura Gallagher singled to left. Bisbiglia crossed home plate on a throwing error by Ram catcher Meghan Shager, but relief pitcher Chelsea Plimpton ended the Explorer threat with two consecutive outs.
Guinn suffered the loss on the mound for the Explorers. She pitched 2.1 innings, gave up six runs on four hits. She struck out one and walked three. Kristin Paoletti and Gina Massaro split time in relief. Paoletti went 1.1 innings, gave up three runs - two earned - on three hits, while striking out two and walking two. Massaro wrapped up the last 0.1 inning.
Mineau earned the win for the Rams. She went four innings, gave up one unearned run on one hit while striking out four. Plimpton went one inning and gave up two hits.
The Explorers return home on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader with city rival Penn at 3:00 PM.
