Easton, PA - In a game which consisted of two overtime periods, the La Salle lacrosse team battled to the end, but a Lafayette goal with 14 seconds remaining in the second overtime secured the Leopards with the win and their first victory of the season, 12-11. Junior Stefany McKee scored a team-high five goals in the extended game.
Senior Kristin Ruminski put Lafayette on the scoreboard first with 1:08 into the game, 1-0. Four of the next five goals were credited to La Salle, providing them with the largest lead of the game for either team, 4-2. From that point on, it was a one-goal game the rest of the way.
With the game tied at 5, freshman Lindsay Sullivan scored with two seconds remaining in the first period to give the Leopards a 6-5 lead at the midway point.
The Explorers evened the game at 6 when junior Jill Davis scored with 28:18 left in the second period. La Salle held a 10-9 lead with under three minutes to play in regulation until senior Emily Archibald scored with 39 seconds left to knot the game at 10 which sent it to overtime.
McKee put the Explorers up by one, 11-10, with 42 seconds left in the first overtime, but the next two goals were scored by Lafayette which ultimately gave them the win, 12-11.
Davis scored four goals for La Salle, in addition to two draw controls and a ground ball. Freshman Allison Herman distributed a game-high three assists and totaled a team-high four draw controls and junior Dorothy Schalleur collected three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
For Lafayette, Archibald finished with five goals and Ruminski tallied two goals, four ground balls and four draw controls.
Lafayette had the advantage in both draw controls, 16-12, and ground balls, 30-22.
The Explorers (4-9, 1-4) return home to host Richmond on Friday at 4:00 PM.
