Hitting Streaks Still Going Despite Loss at George Washington

ARLINGTON, VA - La Salle Baseball opened up its three-game Atlantic 10 series at George Washington with an 11-2 loss, however a pair of Explorers have done it again - extending their career-long hitting streaks.

Justin Handler, who is now at 14 straight, continued his in the first inning with an RBI single which scored John Malloy to give La Salle a 1-0 lead. In all, Handler had two hits - his 14th multi-hit game of the season, his ninth during his streak.

Chris Umstead collected his only hit - a single - in the fourth inning and later came around to score on Brian Meagher's RBI double. In A-10 games-only, Umstead is leading La Salle in batting - a .325 average - and slugging percentage (.500).

George Washington (17-20, 6-6 A-10) put up eight runs between those two La Salle runs, though, and cruised to the victory, which ended its six-game losing streak.

Eric Cantrell (4-2) went eight innings and struck out eight for the win, while Drew Gerhart took the loss and is now (2-4).

La Salle (13-19, 2-10 A-10) will continue its three-game series on Saturday with a 1 PM start.
