Bronx, NY - The postponed tennis match between La Salle and Fordham was played on Saturday, and after winning 5-of-6 in singles play and sweeping doubles, the La Salle men's tennis team went on to defeat the Rams on the road, 6-1. The Explorers end the regular season with a victory and head to the Atlantic 10 Championship next week winners of two of their past three matches.
Sophomore George Gennaoui kicked off singles play with a victory at the No. 1 spot over sophomore Austin Shoup, 6-4, 6-0. Junior Jon Maula, who won at No. 3 singles, teamed with Gennaoui at No. 1 doubles to defeat junior Dallas Harting and freshman Eli Plangger, 8-4.
Freshman Fernando Tovia and Morgan Abrams-Nicholas won at Nos. 4 and 5 singles respectively, and then senior Chris Butera wrapped up singles competition with a victory at No. 6 over senior Peter Slucky, 6-4, 7-5.
"I am very proud of Chris [Butera]," said La Salle Head Coach Ed Colfer. "He has worked extremely hard and to see him finish his senior year strong is truly great."
The Explorers (4-8) will now prepare for the Atlantic 10 Championship next week which will be held at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, PA from April 24-26.
