Washington, DC - Playing in their final road game of the regular season, the La Salle lacrosse team looked to finish the campaign strong with a win at George Washington on Sunday, but the Colonials' second period shooting was too much and the Explorers fell in the end, 16-4.
With a 5-0 lead to open the game, George Washington held La Salle scoreless for nearly 28 minutes until freshman Nora McGurkin gave the Explorers their first goal with 2:07 remaining in the first period, 5-1. Both teams entered the locker rooms with a 6-1 George Washington lead.
The Explorers tried to cut their deficit in the second period, but the Colonials outscored La Salle 10-3 to provide them with the home win.
Juniors Jill Davis and Stefany McKee and freshmen Nora McGurkin and Taylor Ruland each scored a goal on the afternoon. Sophomore Nicole McCurdy totaled a team-high three caused turnovers, picked up three ground balls and controlled the draw twice.
For the Colonials, juniors Mia Breheny and Taylor Donohue each totaled three goals apiece with Donohue dishing out a game-high three assists. Senior Katherine Sampson scored two goals, recorded three caused turnovers and picked up four ground balls.
The Explorers (4-11, 1-6) will play their final regular season game at home on Wednesday when they host Columbia at 4:00 PM.
