Philadelphia, PA - It took an overtime period for the La Salle lacrosse team to play their final game of the season, but two goals in the extra session awarded the visiting Columbia Lions the victory, 10-9. Junior Jill Davis scored a team-high three goals in the loss.
Columbia earned the first goal on the afternoon when junior Brittany Shannon scored with 27:38 remaining in the first period, 1-0. The Explorers answered back with sophomore Ashley Rutz's goal at the 24:10 mark, 1-1. Three of the next four goals came on La Salle's end to give them a 4-2 lead with 11:44 left in the period.
Both teams ventured into halftime with a tie score, 5-5.
Six goals in total were scored in the second period, but all of them were split evenly between the two teams. At the end of regulation, both teams were locked at an even eight.
Davis scored first in the overtime period, 9-8, but senior Holly Glynn scored the next two goals which ultimately gave Columbia the win, 10-9.
Junior Stefany McKee and Rutz both added two goals each and freshmen Nora McGurkin and Sara Ciaverelli contributed one goal respectively. McGurkin also totaled two assists, two draw controls and a ground ball and Ciaverelli tallied a game-high three caused turnovers.
For Columbia, Glynn ended the contest with game-highs of five goals and three draw controls and Shannon followed up with two goals, two ground balls and two draw controls.
The Lions had a 15-8 advantage in draw controls, but La Salle picked up four more ground balls, 11-7.
The Explorers end the 2009 season with a 4-12 overall record and a 1-6 conference record.
