La Salle Loses at Penn State

April 29, 2009

Box Score

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - La Salle Baseball scored three times in the seventh inning on four hits, but host Penn State had already staked an early eight-run lead and cruised to a 9-3 victory on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Medlar Field.

Penn State (22-19) jumped on the Explorers early, scoring four first-inning unearned runs and then plating four more runs in the second (three unearned).

The bats quieted down until the seventh inning, when TJ Chism singled to put runners on first and third with no outs. The hit was La Salle's first of the evening.

John Malloy scored on a double-play ball, but back-to-back extra base hits by Marc Schoch - a double - and Jon Gyles - an RBI triple - scored another run and Zack Feierstein's RBI single pulled La Salle to within 8-3.

Penn State tacked on a single run in the bottom of the seventh to provide the game's final outcome.

La Salle (17-22) will turn its attention to Charlotte, who the Explorers face in Atlantic 10 competition this weekend, starting Friday in Charlotte at 6 PM.
