Philadelphia, PA - Junior Stefany McKee's two goals were not enough as the La Salle lacrosse team fell to conference and city-rival Saint Joseph's on the road Thursday, 16-6.
Saint Joseph’s kicked the game off with a 3-0 lead, but two consecutive La Salle goals from sophomore Ashley Rutz (12:08) and junior Jill Davis (9:37) closed the Hawks’ lead to one goal, 3-2. The Hawks went on to score the next four goals which carried over into the second period, 7-2.
McKee’s goal with 27:05 remaining in regulation made it a 7-3 game, but the Explorers never got within a four-goal window for the rest of the game. With less than five minutes to play, freshman Meghan McDevitt scored two goals in a 22-second span to complete the game’s final score.
McKee and Rutz dished out one assist apiece, in addition to their goals, and sophomore Brittany White also added a goal on the afternoon. Freshman Nora McGurkin totaled a goal, an assist and recorded a game-high five draw controls. Fellow classmate Rachel Baker followed up with team-highs of three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
For the Hawks, junior Jenna Martino, freshman Jen Peters and McDevitt all totaled four goals each in the win.
The Explorers (4-8, 1-4) will play the final game of their current four-game road trip on Tuesday when they travel to Lafayette for a 7:00 PM start time.
