PHILADELPHIA, PA - La Salle University men's basketball junior Rodney Green (Philadelphia, PA/Prep Charter) was named first team All-Big 5 as voted on by area media members and basketball coaches.
Green led the Explorers, who won 18 games for the second time in four seasons and finished at or above the .500 mark in Atlantic 10 play for the third time in the last four seasons, with 17.8 points per game. His average was fifth best in the A-10 and tops among conference juniors. He also led the Explorers with 3.9 assists per game.
The three-year starter at the point scored 20 or more points in 14 of 31 games including 25 points against national semi-finalist Connecticut and a career-high 30 points against Massachusetts.
Green will enter his senior campaign 24th on La Salle's all-time scorer list (1360) with an outside chance of becoming the seventh player in school history to top the 2000-point mark.
The 6 foot 5 guard was also named second team All-Atlantic 10 and to the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 4 team.
The Explorers finished tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 and second in the Big 5 with a 3-1 record in city series play with wins over Penn, Temple and Saint Joseph's. Their 18 wins came against a schedule that boasted five top-25 ranked teams, two Final Four teams and eight NCAA Tournament participants.
Green is joined on the first team by Ahmad Nivins (Saint Joseph's), Dante Cunningham and Scottie Reynolds (Villanova) as well as Dionte Christmas (Temple).
