Early Explorer Lead Does Not Hold Up

May 11, 2009

Box Score

DAYTON, OH - John Malloy and TJ Chism each drove in a pair of runs and La Salle Baseball jumped out to a four-run lead. However, Dayton - who has now won 12 straight Atlantic 10 Conference games and finished undefeated at home in league play - tallied 10 unanswered to take the contest, 10-7, Monday at TWC Stadium.

Chism gave La Salle a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first and Malloy hit a two-run home run in the third. Zack Feierstein put the Explorers up four with an RBI in the fourth.

Dayton (35-15, 20-4 A-10) finally broke through on the scoreboard with a seven-spot in the fifth - highlighted by a two-RBI single by Aaron Dunsmore and followed by a three-run homer by Cole Tyrell.

The Flyers then scored one in the seventh and two unearned runs in the eighth to build their lead to six.

The Explorers were able to cut that in half, plating three in the ninth. One was on a Chism sacrifice fly and two came in on an error, but it would not be enough.

Mike Hauschild improved to 3-2 with the victory, while La Salle's Sean Kennedy took the loss, dropping him to 4-1 this season.

La Salle (18-27, 7-16 A-10) will take on Rider on Tuesday with first pitch at 4 PM - a switch from its original 3 PM start.
