PHILADELPHIA - Junior Beth Carey had a goal and two assists and classmate Emma Ruth stopped four shots for the shutout as La Salle defeated visiting Siena, 4-0, on a sun-splashed Sunday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. Carey dished assists to freshman Rebecca Chylack and junior Gabrielle Nolt and added her third goal in as many games for the Explorers.

Senior Kara Harpel also scored on a breakaway with 17 minutes remaining to finish off the scoring for La Salle, which has won two straight and three of its last four. Ruth was solid in goal and picked up her second shutout of the season and the fifth of her career.

The Explorers (3-4) got on the board in the 19th minute off a corner. Carey sent the ball in to senior Haley Froshour, who stopped it for Chylack. The rookie then blasted a shot past Siena goalkeeper Renee Clavette to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Less than six minutes later Chylack returned the favor, finding Carey next to the cage for a 2-0 lead. La Salle took a 3-0 advantage seven minutes into the second half, when Carey sent a pass through the crease to Nolt, who deposited in the back of the cage.

Harpel finished off the scoring with her breakaway in the 54th minute. It is the 25th goal of her illustrious career, good for seventh all-time at the school.

La Salle outshot Siena, 21-9, including 11-2 in the first half. Siena (1-5) held a 12-11 advantage in penalty corners. Clavette stopped 11 shots in defeat for the Saints.

The Explorers return to action on Friday with a visit to Bucknell at 4 PM.
