O'Steen, Team USA Win Gold At Deaflympics

Sept. 15, 2009

TAIPEI, TAIWAN - With its 4-0 victory over Germany on Monday, Team USA, who is joined by La Salle Women's Soccer player Kelly O'Steen, won the Gold Medal in the 2009 Deaflympics, a feat it first accomplished in its first games in Australia 2005.

Team USA outscored its opponents 17-1 during the competition, which included a pair of 4-0 victories over Germany. O'Steen scored three of the American's goals in a 7-0 victory over Denmark, Monday, September 7.

"We are extremely excited to hear that Kelly will be bringing home the gold medal from Deaflympics," said La Salle Women's Soccer Head Coach Paul Royal.  "As much as our staff and team have missed having Kelly around we are so proud of her wonderful accomplishment and cannot wait to have her back home in a La Salle uniform again.

"I can only imagine the emotions she's feeling considering these are some of the greatest memories she'll ever experience."

O'Steen is expected to return to the United States Wednesday after taking part in the Closing Ceremonies. She will be back at La Salle to resume classes and rejoin her Explorers teammates on Thursday.
