Chylack Scores Two Goals In 4-2 Loss At Lock Haven

Sept. 20, 2009

Box Score

LOCK HAVEN, PA - Freshman Rebecca Chylack scored a pair of goals on Sunday afternoon in a 4-2 loss at Lock Haven in non-conference field hockey action. The rookie blasted a pair of shots directly off penalty corners to cut the La Salle deficit to 3-2 in the second half but Lady Eagles answered back to improve to 5-3.

The Explorers (3-6) fell behind early as LHU scored a pair of goals two minutes apart late in the first half. Amy Hordendorf opened the scoring with her goal in the 26th minute and teammate Mary Keister tipped in a shot off a penalty corner 2:20 later.

Lock Haven made it a 3-0 game in the 53rd minute on Keister's second tally but Chylack and the visitors responded. In the 57th minute, Chylack followed the formula that has worked well for La Salle this season on penalty corners - junior Beth Carey sent the ball in to senior Haley Froshour, who stopped the ball for Chylack's powerful shot.

It worked twice in a span of eight minutes on Sunday to cut the LHU advantage to 3-2. But the corners were the only offense the Explorers could muster, taking all three shots on the day in that situation. La Salle was outshot 15-3 and had a 4-3 disadvantage in corners.

Hordendorf added her second goal in the 65th minute to finish off the scoring.

Junior Emma Ruth had five saves for La Salle. Chylack added a defensive save as well.

The Explorers remain on the road to take on Lehigh on Saturday.
