Explorers Sweep Delaware State, 3-0

PHILADELPHIA - With their final non-conference match set for Tuesday night, the La Salle volleyball team looked to finish strong in preparation of Atlantic 10 action on Friday. The Explorers set the tone early and went on to sweep Delaware State at home, 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-19).

After being named to the UNC Greensboro All-Tournament Team this past weekend, senior Rachel Stemper finished with impressive numbers for the Explorers on Tuesday night. She notched her 10th double-double of the season, and her third in five matches, with match-highs of 12 kills and 27 digs. Stemper also totaled two blocks (BS, BA) on the evening as well.

With the first set tied at 24, Stemper rose to the occasion with consecutive kills to give her team the first win of the match, 26-24.

Another tie at 24 in the second set was broken up by a Delaware State attack error and then Stemper punched in the winning kill to give the Explorers a 26-24 victory heading into the third and final set in which they wrapped up.

Freshman Breanna Mazalewski followed up Stemper's performance with 17 digs, junior Carly Conlon contributed 14 assists and three digs, sophomore Kourtney Clark added a team-high 19 assists and four digs and freshman Kelly Scanlon totaled four blocks (2 BS, 2 BA).

Delaware State was led by junior Sarah Wheatcroft and her match-high 23 assists, seven digs and four kills. Sophomore Martina Ferrari led the team with 25 digs.

The Explorers (3-15) open up conference action on Friday, Sept. 25, when they host George Washington at 7 PM.
