PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Austin Johnson scored the first and second goals of his young career to propel the La Salle men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over the United States Naval Academy on Wednesday night. The Explorers even their record at 3-3-1, while the Midshipmen drop to 4-3-0.

The Explorers have now won all three of their games in shutout fashion. They last shut out three opponents in a season during the 2007 season, which took 17 games to accomplish. In comparison, this season's three shutouts have taken only seven games to accomplish.

The Explorers and Mids played a tight defensive battle to open the game. Johnson broke the scoreless game in the 35th minute with his first collegiate goal. Ryan Sepe played the ball from the top left corner of the box to Johnson on the opposite corner, who then slotted the ball in past Navy goalie Tyler Bristol.

With the score at 1-0 to start the second half, Johnson struck early with another score just 3:41 into the half. Ryan Richter threw the ball in to Jeff Pio, who flicked the ball off the post and Johnson was there to finish.

The Explorer offensive attack was not finished, as Glenroy Chapman put the game away with the third goal of the game just 10 minutes later. Richter took the ball into the box, which was cleared by Bristol. Chapman snagged it and finished the score for the second of his rookie campaign.

Richter added the final tally with less than 1:30 remaining. He intercepted the ball from the Mids and got past Bristol for the fourth score of the game.

The Explorers outshot the Mids 13-7, while the teams were even in corner kicks with three apiece. Michael Rakoczy led the Mids with three shots, all of which were on goal.

Explorer keeper Kyle Quigley was credited with the shutout win and made three saves in the effort. Bristol made five saves, four in the first half, while taking the loss in goal.

The Explorers return to action on Saturday (9/26) when they host Maryland-Baltimore County in a non-conference tilt at 1:00 PM.
