La Salle Loses to Visiting Richmond, 2-1

Sept. 27, 2009

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Erin Brennan cut a two-goal La Salle Women's Soccer deficit in half with a tally in the 71st minute and the Explorers had four more shots on goal in the final 20 minutes, however the Spiders held on for a 2-1 victory on Sunday in Atlantic 10 action at McCarthy Stadium.

Richmond (5-5-1, 1-1-0 A-10) took a 1-0 lead into the half, scoring with just 2:32 left before the break. Natalie LeClair crossed a ball from the right side of the field to the near post. Shondel Archer then put the ball into the net for her sixth of the season.

It was LeClair scoring the second goal after kicking the ball into an empty net after La Salle goalie Melissa Sanger could not control a cross by Emily Dale.

The Explorers, who outshot Richmond 19-8 and had 11 shots on goal, finally broke through at the 70:01 mark when Ally Kenney took a free kick from the left side and Brennan headed it home to cut their deficit to one.

They continued to look for the equalizer, with four more shots on net, but Spider goalie Melissa Pecheco stopped 10 total shots to pick up the win.

La Salle (6-3-2, 0-1-1 A-10) will stay at home next weekend with conference matches against Xavier (Friday, 7 PM) and Dayton (Sunday, 1 PM).
