La Salle Falls to Temple, Penn

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle Volleyball team returned to the Palestra on Saturday for the second and final day of the Big 5 Tournament, but a 3-0 (10-25, 15-25, 20-25) loss to Temple and a 3-1 (22-25, 14-25, 25-22, 21-25) loss to Penn left the Explorers winless over the weekend. Senior Rachel Stemper, who was named to the La Salle Invitational All-Tournament Team last week, was selected to the Big 5 All-Tournament Team this weekend.

After trailing the Quakers by two sets, Stemper scored the Explorers’ first three points in the third to give them a 3-2 lead. With the set tied at 12, La Salle went on a 4-0 run, to make it 16-12, and then two kills by Stemper secured the Explorers with the victory, 25-22.

Stemper picked up her fifth double-double of the season, and her third in the last four matches, with team-highs of 19 kills and three assisted blocks alongside 12 digs. Freshman Breanna Mazalewski notched the only other double-double in the match with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Freshman Samantha Tulskie contributed a match-high 16 digs, junior Carly Conlon chipped in with 15 assists, seven digs, two service aces and two kills and sophomore Stephanie Milovic finished with eight kills, five assists and three digs.

Junior Megan Tryon added a match-high 44 assists for Penn and senior Elizabeth Semmens tallied 20 kills.

Earlier in the day, against Temple, Mazalewski ended the match with eight kills and six digs and Stemper recorded seven kills and two digs.

The Explorers (1-7) will head out to Lawrenceville, NJ, on Tuesday to face Rider at 6 PM.
