PHILADELPHIA - Ashley Gale knocked down four three-point baskets to lead La Salle Women's Basketball with 16 points, however St. Bonaventure shot better than 50% for the game and cruised to a 58-39 victory on Wednesday night in Atlantic 10 action at Tom Gola Arena.
In all, the Explorers connected on 9-of-19 three-point baskets, which helped them jump out to an early lead, but they shot just 31% for the game - 4-of-23 (17%) from inside the arc - and turned the ball over 21 times.
La Salle used an early 9-0 run over a two-minute span to erase a three-point deficit and race out to a six-point lead. Gale knocked down back-to-back three-point baskets and then assisted on Danielle Callahan's and with 15:21 left in the first half, the Explorers led 11-5.
The Bonnies quickly answered as Megan Van Tatenhove scored six of her 10 points to tie the game at 11 just two minutes later. She also ended the night with a game-high nine rebounds and three assists.
Over the next six minutes the teams were tied three times and traded the lead three times before St. Bonaventure took the lead for good at the 5:09 mark. Alaina Walker scored on a jumper, two of her 10 points in the contest, which was part of a 7-0 run which gave the Bonnies a 26-20 advantage.
Jamie Walsh ended the streak with one of her two three-point baskets in the contest to cut it to 23-20, however Dana Mitchell scored eight straight to close the half, including a three at the buzzer to the Bonnies up 11 at the break.
St. Bonaventure (14-5, 2-2 A-10) continued its run out of the locker room, increasing its lead to 16 before Gale hit her fourth three of the night and Walsh was good on a lay-up to pull the Explorers to within 11 with 17:48 left in the game.
Over the next 6:24, neither team scored a basket on eight straight possessions. The teams combined to miss 13 shots and turned the ball over three times.
The Bonnies ended their drought and scored on three-of-five possessions to take an 18-point lead. Tara Lapetina ended La Salle's scoreless streak of more than nine minutes with a three, but St. Bonaventure answered with a 6-0 run pushing its lead to 21.
Mitchell ended with a team-high 16 points and added five boards, helping her team to a 32-21 edge.
Gale added five rebounds to her totals, while Antonia Gale had a team-high six boards and five points. Walsh ended the night with 10 points.
With those two made threes, she is now tied for 23rd on the Atlantic 10 Conference's list of career made three-point baskets with 185.
La Salle (5-14, 0-4) will travel to the nation's capital for its next contest, taking on George Washington on Sunday with a 1 PM tip.
