Rutgers scored a goal in each half to hand La Salle a 2-0 defeat on Sunday. Senior Emma Ruth made 12 saves in defeat.
Gia Nappi scored on a penalty stroke to give RU a 1-0 lead with 10:50 to go in the first half. The Scarlet Knights controlled possession for the majority of the first half until the Explorers (5-8) had three-straight corners late in the first half. La Salle was unable to capitalize on the opportunities.
In the 45th minute, the Scarlet Knights picked up their seventh penalty corner and second goal . Junior Mackenzie Noda sent the ball in to Nappi, who passed it back to Noda just to the left of the cage. The back then tipped the ball Gentile, who found the back of the cage for a 2-0 RU advantage.
Rutgers (5-9) held a 24-6 advantage in shots and a 12-7 lead in corners. Senior Rachel Deaner and freshman Haley Jennings each had defensive saves.
La Salle is back home on Friday in an Atlantic 10 match-up against Temple at 3 PM.
