PHILADELPHIA - Three different St. Bonaventure players scored in the first half as the La Salle men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 Atlantic 10 decision to the Bonnies at McCarthy Stadium on Friday night.
Although both squads played evenly with eight shots apiece, the visitors got on the board in the 13th minute on Emmett O'Connor's unassisted shot. Chris Leko scored in the 18th minute and reserve Brad Beaumont scored 10 minutes later to put the score at 3-0 and the eventual final.
The Explorers (3-5-2, 1-1 Atlantic 10) doubled up on the Bonnies (7-5, 2-1 Atlantic 10) in the shot category in the second half, but could not capitalize on their six shots. For the game, the Explorers outshot the Bonnies 14-11. The Bonnies held a slight 3-2 advantage on corner kicks. The Explorers had the upper hand on fouls with the Bonnies' 15 to the Explorers' 13, but 10 for each squad came in a feisty second half.
The Explorers came close to getting on the board in the 78th minute. A Mike Pio shot was blocked and the Explorers were awarded a corner kick. Dan Korenyi took the shot off the corner, a header that just missed high.
Pio led the Explorers with four shots taken and O'Connor attempted four for the Bonnies.
John McCarthy made five saves in goal in the loss, while David Flynn picked up the win while stopping three shots.
The Explorers return home on Sunday (10/17) for a 1:00 PM tilt with Duquesne.
