Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team closed out its four-game homestand on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Duquesne at McCarthy Stadium.

The visiting Dukes (5-6-2, 1-3 Atlantic 10) got on the board at the 20:03 mark when Tyler Tompkins took a pass from Simon Gomez and then converted a kick from wide right into the goal, which proved to be the game-winner for the Dukes.

Gomez was once again part of the scoring when Stefan Lundberg scored in the 57th minute. Gomez passed the ball to Lundberg at midfield, who then ran down the right side of the field and one-timed it into the goal.

The Explorers (3-6-2, 1-2 Atlantic 10) had a few chances to get on the board, but could not convert any of their five shots on goal as Duke goalie Chris Torres came up with five saves.

John McCarthy suffered the loss in goal but made nine saves in the effort. Torres picked up the win, the Dukes' first A-10 win of the season, while stopping five shots.

The Dukes held a 19-10 advantage on shots while the Explorers edged the visitors on corner kicks, 6-5. The Dukes were also whistled for 14 fouls to the Explorers' seven.

The Explorers head back on the road for four games, the first coming at Richmond next Friday (10/22) at 7:00 PM.
