PHILADELPHIA - La Salle Women's Soccer earned a 2-1 victory over visiting Richmond, thanks to a pair of goals scored three minutes apart, in a key Atlantic 10 Conference match Friday night at McCarthy Stadium.
At the 32:46 mark, freshman Anna Dolhansky knocked home her team-high tying eighth goal of the year off an assist from classmate Ashley Chilcoat, her first collegiate point.
Just three minutes, two seconds later, freshman Courtney Niemiec headed in a corner kick off the foot of junior Jess Hopton to put the Explorers up 2-0. For Hopton, it was her fifth assist of the year, tying her for the team lead, while it was Niemiec's first collegiate goal.
Richmond (5-8-2, 2-3-1 A-10) would cut its deficit in half four minutes later (39:42) as Shondel Archer scored an unassisted goal.
Spider goalkeeper Melissa Pacheco made seven saves in the game to keep her team in the game, however the Explorers limited Richmond to just three second half shots, and one on net.
Sophomore Gabby Pakhtigian made a pair of saves to earn her eighth win of the season, the 12th of her career. Both of those numbers already put her tied for the fifth most by a keeper in a single season and career at the school.
With the victory, La Salle now improves its record to 4-1 all-time versus Richmond at McCarthy Stadium.
La Salle (8-7-2, 2-3-1 A-10) will next host George Washington Sunday with kickoff slated for 1 PM at McCarthy Stadium.
