Explorers Can't Top Saint Louis

Oct. 23, 2010

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The volleyball team played a strong second set against Saint Louis, but ultimately fell 3-0 (14-25, 23-25, 11-25) to the Billikens.

“This weekend we played some very good teams and we just need to learn how to close them out,” coach Dave Stever said. “There were a couple games this weekend where we should have definitely won.”

After losing the first set 14-25, La Salle rebounded in the second frame.  The teams kept the contest tight and the Explorers took a 16-15 lead after a kill by Kelly Scanlon.

A kill by Lauren Noga and a Saint Louis attack error gave La Salle its largest lead of the match at 20-18.  The Billikens dug in and won four of the next five points to take a 22-21 lead.

Samantha Tulskie evened the score at 22 all with a kill.  The scored would be tied again at 23-all before Saint Louis won the last two points to take the set 25-23.

In the third frame, Saint Louis used an early 10-0 run to put the game out of reach and took the set 25-11.

The Billikens’ Andrea Beaty led all attackers with 15 kills on the day, while Jacquelyn Mitrovich posted seven kills for La Salle.  Kourtney Clark notched a team-high 18 assists and nine digs for the Blue and Gold.

The Explorers will face Saint Louis again in their next match, as they travel to Missouri for an October 29th contest.
