PHILADELPHIA - La Salle Women's Soccer won its second straight game with a 1-0 victory over visiting George Washington, Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium, as Morgan Golden scored the game winner and Gabby Pakhtigian earned the win in net.
With the win, which was the team's third straight against the Colonials, the Explorers even their Atlantic 10 Conference record to 3-3-1 and set themselves up for a run to qualify for the league championship tournament.
Pakhtigian, who tied her career high with the nine saves, made six stops in the first half to keep the Colonials off the board and she was also helped by a team-save in the 23rd minute.
Golden put the only tally on the board at the 67:03 mark as she took a midfield pass from Courtney Niemiec and beat two defenders. With George Washington goalkeeper Lindsey Rowe coming out, Golden chipped the ball over her and into the back of the net.
George Washington (9-7-0, 3-4-0 A-10) would be held to just two shots the rest of the way, but both were on net as Pakhtigian came up with both stops.
With just over two minutes left in the contest, La Salle was called for a foul and Adriana Moya set up for a free kick just 30 yards from the Explorer net. Her shot was caught by Pakhtigian preserving the win and the shutout.
With the win in goal, Pakhtigian increases her career mark to 13 wins, fifth all-time and her six shutouts ties her with Amy Grant for fifth all-time at the school.
As a team, the Explorers have now won 39 games over the past four years, tying for the most during any four-year period in the 25-year history of the program, with the 2009 graduating class.
La Salle (9-7-1, 3-3-1 A-10) will conclude its regular season with a pair of home contests. The Explorers will host Rhode Island on Friday and Massachusetts on Sunday, which will be Senior Day.
