Oct. 29, 2010

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Ryan Sepe (West Islip, NY/West Islip) scored two goals to lead the La Salle men's soccer team to its third straight Atlantic 10 win, a 4-2 decision at Rhode Island on Friday night in Kingston, RI. The Explorers are now 6-6-2 (4-2 Atlantic 10) while the Rams fall to 2-11-2 (0-5-1 Atlantic 10).

In addition to Sepe's four-point night, rookie Jidell Roach (Willow Grove, PA/Abington) also put together a four-pointer on one goal and two assists. Ryan Richter also added a goal, the one which proved the game-winner.

The Rams drew first blood in the tenth minute on a Thomas Lindroos goal to put the home team up 1-0. Sepe then scored two straight within a four-minute span to put the Explorers ahead for good. He shot in a rebound on a Jeff Pio (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) shot that was blocked at the 22:44 mark for his second goal of the season. He added his third goal of the season and second on the night at 26:23, taking a cross from Roach and putting the ball in the goal at the far post.

Richter added the third goal of the half, which proved to be the game-winner, at the 30:33 mark. The goal came in the same fashion as Sepe's second, with Roach sending a cross to the far post and Richter blasting home the shot.

The Rams closed the gap to 3-2 in the 66th minute when Jonathan Pereira found Eric Hutson off of a corner kick. However, Roach put in the insurance goal six minutes later, an unassisted shot from point blank range, for the final 4-2 score.

The Explorer offense dominated, outshooting the Rams by a 2-to-1 margin (20-10). The Rams edged the Explorers 5-3 in corner kicks.

Freshman John McCarthy (Cinnaminson, NJ/Northeast Catholic) picked up the win in goal, making two saves. Rhody's Peyton Warwick suffered the loss, stopping six shots in the effort.

The Explorers continue their New England swing on Sunday, when they visit Massachusetts at 1:00 PM.
