RALEIGH, NC - La Salle Baseball dropped its season opener at NC State Friday afternoon at Doak Field as the hosts defeated the Explorers 32-3.
The Wolfpack (1-0) jumped out to a 17-run lead after just two frames before La Salle got on the board.
Brian Meagher hit a one-out solo home run in the top of the third for the Explorer first run of the 2010 season.
Jim Tarabocchia and Jeff Flax also scored runs for La Salle, as Flax drove in Tarabocchia with a single in the fifth. Flax scored his run in the eighth inning on a double by Jon Gyles.
Flax and Gyles each had a pair of hits for the Explorers, while Tony Negrin, John Malloy, and Brendan Norton each registered a single.
La Salle (0-1) will face NC State two more times this weekend, Saturday at 2 PM and Sunday at 1 PM.
