Feb. 21, 2010

Box Score

RALEIGH, NC - La Salle Baseball scored nine runs and out hit NC State on Sunday, 12-9. However, the Wolfpack made the most of 15 free passes, nine of which scored, to take the final game of the three-game series, 15-9, on Sunday at Doak Field.

La Salle jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning when John Malloy hit a two-run triple, scoring Brendan Norton, who was 2-for-3 on the day, and Jeff Flax. He then crossed the plate himself on a Jon Gyles sacrifice fly.

In all, Malloy had three RBI, as did Gyles, who knocked in a pair in the sixth inning on a two-out RBI single, his third hit of the day. Dan Klem and Norton came in to score, Klem's second run of the game, Norton's third, which pulled the Explorers to within three at 10-7.

It was a two-run game (11-9) after the top of the seventh thanks to RBI from Marc Schoch, scoring Brian Meagher, and Klem, scoring Joe Bennie.

However, the Wolfpack continued to answer the Explorers, and posted four runs in the bottom of the seventh, as the first three batters drew walks and came around to score.

NC State (3-0) managed just nine hits in the game, but six went for extra bases.

La Salle (0-3) will return to action this weekend with a three-game series at Florida, a preseason #9/7, starting on Friday with a 6:30 PM first pitch.
