PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Liz Reed led the La Salle softball team on Saturday with two hits as the Explorers dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Dayton. The Flyers won 5-4 in the first game and 2-0 in the second.

Dayton plated a run in the bottom of the first inning of game one, but the Explorers answered back in the next frame. Shannon Skomorucha reached base on a walk and advanced to second on a Laura Gallagher sacrifice bunt. Breanna DiTommaso followed up with a single to left field to advance Skomorucha to third, and she then scored when Reed ripped an RBI single to left field.

After the Flyers went up 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Explorers came back with two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Erica Vile blasted a two-run double to score Gina Massaro, who reached on a walk, and Mary Pat Conville, who reached base on an error.

Once again runs were answered as Dayton tied the game up at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. DJ Guinn then blasted a solo home run in the top of the seventh to put the score at 4-3. Dayton had last say though as two runs came in on an Explorer miscue with one out in the bottom of the seventh as the Flyers won, 5-4.

The second game saw a lack of offense on both sides as the squads posted a combined three hits. The Flyers broke through in the bottom of the third on a double by Courtney Kutsulis, who scored on a follow-up bunt.

The Flyers added one more in the bottom of the fourth for the final 2-0 score.

Reed registered her second hit of the day in the top of the third inning when she singled to center field.
