March 9, 2010

Box Score

BUIES CREEK, NC - La Salle Baseball scored four runs through the game's first four innings, however the Campbell Camels tacked on seven unanswered runs over their final four frames to take the non-conference contest, 10-4, at Taylor Field Tuesday night.

Brendan Norton had a pair of extra base hits for the Explorers, a double and triple, and scored two runs, while Marc Schoch also had two hits.

Jon Gyles gave La Salle a 1-0 lead after the top half of the first, scoring Norton, who led off the game with a double, with an RBI single. Unfortunately, with two runners on and one out, the inning ended for the first of three times on the night, with a double play.

Campbell (7-4) responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs on a two-out two RBI double by Alex Aycoth.

In the third, Jeff Flax led off with a double and scored off the bat of Gyles, who also came around to score on an RBI single by Kevin Jones. This time the Explorers had the bases loaded before the inning ended on a double play.

The Camels answered again in the bottom of the frame with a solo run, Aycoth again registering the RBI, to knot the score at three.

La Salle (1-6) took a 4-3 lead in the fourth as Norton hit a lead-off tripled and scored on a Flax sacrifice fly.

However, Campbell reclaimed the lead in the fifth with a pair of runs, tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth, and two more in the eight to take the contest.

The two teams will play another nine on Wednesday with first pitch again slated for 4 PM.
